(For Irma, my late wife of 49 years -- October 22^nd, 1957 -- January 7^th, 2022,

whom I've known and loved since she was 15 years old and I was only 19.

We married on October 27^th, 1973.)

In a moment of sadness contemplation,

within our ever such distant separation,

I lost hope of our ever being together,

drowning in heart's rain of foul weather ...

“All things must pass¹,” George has said,

indeed they did for poor George is dead,

“Some things were never meant to be,”

shall I ever your pretty eyes again see ...?

True statements in words seem so wise,

but sometimes true words seem like lies,

so why does it always have to be me,

why is it that I must always reality see ...?

Why can't I hope for hope beyond hope,

what's wrong with being a delusional dope,

why can't I have this sweet Mexican lass,

till my life ends as all things must pass,

a dream come true as they so seldom do,

you waking next to me and me next to you ...?

so emotive .. the sadness of loss in this poem is accepted and made part of the speakers voice .. or so it seems to me .. i also read the note about your life with your bride and life before that .. what a beautiful song .. i can relate to the loss .. thanks for sharing such a personal poem of love and loss .. friends try so hard to say just the right thing but of course .. fall far short ... and most know it as the words pass over the lips .. but the meaning is supportive .. great write for me
