These  two Grumpy Old Men said it better than I can

No matter how gray in years,

be that head of hoary white,

no matter how glistening bald,

as Savalas' reflecting sunlight,

there are creatures which send,

the toughest of old men to flight,

us old guys are scared of girls too,

turning to mush men in their sight.

If I believed in God, I'd surely pray:

make me a mush man before I die,

ask of me not the reasons why,

my greatest fear is to die alone,

without someone to call my own.

Yep, well said in pensive, ruminating poetic overview, or to quote the words of that famed country & western song from a while back in time sung so melodically by the late great Kenny Rodgers,

' 'Cause every hand's a winner,
And every hand's a loser,
And the best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep." ........................ And like you I'll add to this, but not alone!!
