MarionetteA Poem by Melody TelleriaShe dances, sways, twirls on the worlds stage, a plastic smile stretched across the polished face, a mask to hide the growing rage.
Truly a vision, shes a marionette, mastered and controlled by invisible fingers, they stroke her glossy hair, caress her rosy cheeks, adjust the skimpy outfit on which all eyes are meant to linger.
The audience cheers at her performance, laugh when her wooden feet stumble, cajole the puppeteer of life to have her take a bow, eyes downcast and humble.
Encore! Encore! plead voices all around, make us laugh, please our eyes, shimmy out of that little disguise.
Living life in constant performance, little marionette hasn't learned to say no, how to break free of the trance. The expectations, admiration, so difficult to give up, how can one deny the power of being able to enchant?
Eyes full of wonder and lust, the need to feel wanted, trusted, to forget the hands that shamed her and molested, to anticipate the day she'll be tested.
When asked who she wants to be, pretty marionette, pleaser of all? Or does she wish to forsake the stage, to be a real girl and learn to fall? © 2013 Melody Telleria |
