Let it Grow

Let it Grow

A Poem by Murtuza
"

Achieving Independence

"
Sown by the hands
of the brave and the good,
this tree proudly stands;
its armour, its wood.

Diverse in their direction
the leaves branch out.
As if harmoniously, in perfection
they gently sway about.

No stormy rain
dared dampen its might.
With every hurricane
it was ready to fight.

With roots anchored deep,
and nurtured by the soil.
To never fall, to never creep
whatever the turmoil.

Now independent and fully mature
'twas once a sapling, not long ago.
So to every admirer, I do implore
to let it prosper and let it grow.

Author's Note

Murtuza
A small poem that won me the poetry competition to celebrate India's 65th Independence Day at school. The topic was 'Let the Tree Grow'. I took it as a metaphor and made a simple poem out of it.

This was ingenious my friend. The concept behind it was as always timeless and innovative.

This poem's flow is incredible and I love the rhyme scheme you used. Such a wonderful piece of work if I must say. My favorite stanza though was:

"With roots anchored deep,
and nurtured by the soil.
To never fall, to never creep
whatever the turmoil.

To let something nurture is giving it life. That's how it is. To continue letting it grow so it can become stronger and have its own stand.

I love the fourth stanza especially (: This has an amazing flow, in addition there's this beautiful imagery that encases it all, but apart from that I love the words you use, like delicate phrases that could break so easily. And the last two lines are so liberating, that makes this poem even sweeter than it already was. Amazing poem (:

An inspiring work; stately of form; powerfully worded.
Perhaps, your best yet, Murtuza.

Amazing. The metaphor in there fit perfectly to show how India gained its independence. The whole -tree growing- was used nicely. I'm not surprised you won. Because this is really awesome.
