The Last Thing

The Last Thing

A Poem by Amanda

So cold and alone,
She sits on the swings.
Slowly rocking back and forth
While thinking of things.

Not a sound is made
Except for the silent scream
That echos in her head
From her midnight dream.

She's alone in the park,
She's alone in the world.
No one to love her,
She's just a broken girl.

Back and forth
On the swing she rocks.
To a small gray kitten
She slowly talks.

"They don't understand.
They don't even know me.
There is no possible way
They could ever see

What they put me through
Every single day.
No one cares.
Nobody ever offers to say,

How are you feeling?
Or are you alright?
No they just leave me be to battle
The silent war I fight.

They don't know
What's been going on in my head.
They will never care."
Was the last thing she said.

The kitten scampered away
With the girl's last word.
It would be the last sound
She would have ever heard.

Her mind was made up,
She would never be missed.
So she pulled out a blade
And sliced it across her wrist.

Within seconds she was gone,
Departed for a life after death.
She took her own life;
It was the only thing she had left.

Everything had been taken
Away from her so bad.
She wanted to take with her
The last thing she would ever have.
