Sky of Black

Sky of Black

A Poem by Amanda

Your heart aches in the darkness
When there is not a single soul to be heard.
Laying alone under a black starless sky,
Do you wish ever wish to be a bird?

Spread your wings to catch the wind,
And take off into a never ending flight.
Sail your way through dreams and stars,
Though still haunted by the blackness of night.

The pain is what you run from,
So quickly away you attempt to fly.
You see escape as your only option,
Your wings rip apart the sheet of sky.

Running is not enough to cure you,
Deep inside you know you still ache.
So fly down, and tell me my dear,
Have you ever wished to be a snake?

Silently crawling around in the black
With a bite large enough to kill.
To give revenge to those who have done wrong,
Echo their scream, cold and shrill.

You thought you wanted them hurt,
To allow them to suffocate as did you.
Sink your fangs into their screams,
Watch every ounce of blood fall through.

Vengeance is not which you seek,
Nor is it what you even desire.
Perhaps a snake is not for you,
But a lone wolf in a single choir?

Be silent like the sky,
Veil yourself in the shadow of the tree.
Stand cold and show yourself unbreakable,
Don’t dare let anyone see.

Though when the wind is quite
And there is not a soul about,
Raise your head to the blackness of sky,
And cry your own heart out.

Stand alone with no one beside you,
Raging an internal attack.
Perhaps you are no animal at all,
Just a human under a sky of black.

You are nothing but what you are,
A beating heart that does nothing but ache.
You’ve given a star to all who you loved,
And all they did was crush and take.

You lay out each night
And look at the thin sheet of sky.
The nights grow colder,
As each endless day goes by.

You wait for the stars to reappear,
For shards of your heart to come back.
Day after day nothing appears,
Now all you are is a sky of black.

Howdy, Bob Dylan in the making? Loved your style of narration, it was personal, yet distant. You rhyme words effortlessly. I loved this stanza:

"Be silent like the sky,
Veil yourself in the shadow of the tree.
Stand cold and show yourself unbreakable,
Don’t dare let anyone see."

You'd make a pretty good songwriter. Have you ever tried writing songs? If not, you should, you've got it in you. Thanks for sharing your work, it was a pleasure to read! =)
