He came home

He came home

A Poem by Hidden Sunshine

She stood in silence surrounded by faces that cried, laughed, and smiled.

Seven months without his laugh, his voice, his touch had finally reached it's end, he was coming home.

She watched as soldiers hugged their families and kissed their wives and husbands. They were home.

She played with her fingers as butterflies flew in her stomach.

A look of fright covered her face.

Where was he? Why wasn't he holding her, kissing her, loving her?

He came from across the room.

Looking sharp in his marine uniform.

Medals dangling and a flag in his hand.

She looked at him as he finally reached her.

He grabbed her hand as he gave her the flag.

Her world soon began to spin, she dropped to the floor as he spoke two words...

"...I'm sorry".

Tears rolled down her face as she hugged his flag and cried in agony.

Soldiers and their families watched as she mourned.

Seven months of worry had ended, but a life of heartache had just begun.

She stood in silence as tears rolled down her face and the trumpets played.

Soldiers gave their respects and said their goodbye's.

She touched his coffin as she prayed and wept her heart out.

She looked down at the bump at her stomach and whispered...

"...your daddy's home".
