Satiating Stray

Satiating Stray

A Poem by nadia dmitri
"

Forget that distracting dog

"
To yearn is to ache
When that emptiness is filled
Where does that pain go?

We give it a name
We give it a place to sleep
And pray it away

Owned like a stray dog
A placeholder of true warmth
Too soon discarded

We make so much room
For this hurt, and then blame it
For taking up space

Emptiness is filled
It takes the place of the stray
The real replaces

Bandage that worry
Forget that distracting dog
Its no longer yours

No ceremonies
Leave that satiation, the
Wounds that kept you warm

good premise. while normally I don't like introducing an idea so clearly at the beginning of a poem it works very well in this case, maybe because it's complex or interesting enough that it feels like a lot. the second stanza is great, to the point that I feel I don't even need to describe why. it just is. I like all of the short, rather out of context sentences as well. "leave that satiation, the wounds that kept you warm", "bandage that worry" "forget that distracting dog", and "the real replaces" are all good examples of this. they feel like little sporadic bursts, which can help keep the rhythm of the poem, and keep the reader interested. I usually don't rate stuff out of 100, so my rating here is "very good, keep writing like this".
