Dear You

Dear You

A Poem by N.A.

Rarely do I think of you

You were unhappy then

but the smile you carry now

you carry now

We walked the field together

Tylenol reminds me

of our conversations and

your thoughts of suicide

You drank the punch

and this time

you didn’t throw it up

That smile you carry now

you carry now

Your eyes are sad dried rings

like the ones under the sink

Do you still find broken blood vessels?

I know

you were tired of being unhappy

so you began to recite and recite

I hope you find peace of mind

and not just another guy

and not just another Christ

I liked you better before

when you compulsively ate Tylenol

Now there’s a dead weight

that hangs from your eyes

or is that how they’re shaped?

You were not crazy

I would have notice that

but at least at some level

you were there

well, maybe you were

I hope you’re pretending now

If you’re not pretending

then I guess there’s no hope for you

This is not a very interesting

I know
