Substance

A Poem by Haley Smith

I hate what you've done to me
Taken away all the memories,
knocked my thoughts out of place,
made me so bitter and cold.
What do you have to say for yourself?

I let myself let you get to me,
now I can hardly breathe,
hardly speak;
how can I love again
with this ice over my heart?

You threw my life away
as soon as you seized its reigns;
now I'm stuck and alone and
confused, yet you are happy.
How can you be so?
Don't you see how low you've made me?

It's certainly evocative. I normally have a distaste for this style of poetry (meaning, the line breaks only serve to turn a sentence into a stanza) but this seems to be styled slightly differently and is more descriptive than ones I usually see. So, I suppose I can let my pet peeve slide in this case to say; very nice, I liked it.
