The Day They Killed Innocence

The Day They Killed Innocence

A Poem by Nikhil Ranka
"

I wrote this poem to a dear penpal from Peshawar, after the Peshawar school massacre.

"

What is one to do in such belligerence?

Where cowards kill innocence.

Butchering little children for petty vengeance,

Affirming such malignity to be divine ordinance.

Blame not yourself for this corollary of ignorance.

Blame, if you must, the very nature of existence;

For to exist is to exist in violence.

That ending line is amazing, very eloquently written.
