Little Black Bird

Little Black Bird

A Poem by Nicola Farren

In a car parked and still

in man made surrounds.

I gazed at the beauty

that was scattered around.

Chirping so cheerfully

above in a tree.

Was a little black bird

I’d been waiting to see.

Just then in the distance

a reply came this way.

Oh little black bird

Please don’t fly away.

How I wish I could join in

and talk to you.

Give me a signal

 to know you do too.

Then all of a sudden

magic filled the air.

Voices of little birds

from everywhere.

Imagining their

Conversations from ground

amazingly I heard

a laughing sound.

Then quick as we’d started

we had come to the end.

The magic flew away

with my little feathered friend.

And often when sad

I think of what I found

That magic from a car

parked in man made surrounds.

I liked the sudden change in atmosphere you made at the middle of the poem and the abrupt ending to which it came...yeah...there are some times in life when we feel as if we are experiencing magic in the strangest of "surrounds"!

This is a lovely poem, I liked the volta you implored in the end with "magic from a car" and "man made surrounds". Seriously good flow to it as well. Great poem!

Perhaps showing the beauty of nature that can be found often unsuspected. I enjoyed it; I thought it showed duality of nature and man in a subtle, more intimate kind of way.

sometimes within 'man made surrounds' is nature when you really look for it. communing with birds is also soothing to the stress of the city. very pretty poem.

Nicola, I love the way you tell the story of a magical moment- simply spoken, like the blackbird, with a rhythm both dreamy and joyful.
