he eats what he catches

he eats what he catches

They said that they’d air the story at seven
right after sports before the credits.
on Channel 13 with Dick Knipfing
and his co-anchor, some token Mexican chick.

We waited through top stories:
Albuquerque officer sentenced for rape,
Kingpin taken down in Santa Fe.
Tomorrow’s forecast, mostly scattered storms.

Grandma had the closest seat to the TV
to hear me exclaim my lust
for her lunch, roast turkey burritos.
“At home, Grandma cooked for us!”

Then the Korean reporter that approached us
appeared like the trout that slid off my hook
a fishing rod, twice my size at my side.
Holes in my mouth whenever I smiled.

Yet when the story aired, I lost my
depth, my chance to represent for grandma
“Jeremy says he’ll eat everything he catches.”
The news anchors giggled and called it a night
