The River

The River

A Poem by Omar Nazario

Mountain stream coming down to me
Flowing fast down to the fall
Tell me what your current seeks
Before I surrender the call

Racing horses coursing through trees
The quilting of a teenage dream
Send me a sign to know you've arrived
And I'll dip my toes in your waters tonight

River, oh river, pressed by the sea
Crackable beauty edged at my feet
River, oh river, hang tough while you can
There's so much of life you don't understand
River, oh river, supple and clean
Fill up the gap she left in me

Swell up the ness, the ridges and the crest
Let your ripples spring the pain
Take what you can and don't let 'em forget
The beauty they ruined is the one you'll mend

Agents of destruction are moving on you
Don't let 'em guilt your innocent hew
The villain will find fault in your art
But not even seraphs could tear us apart

Wow. This was a great poem! I love the imagry you used; I could picture the river and everything you described with great clarity. I could feel that the person in this poem wanted so desperately to forget about her, whoever she is, and that feeling bled through very well. Also, as I was reading this poem I found myself humming a tune and found that this would make a great song. Just a thought.

My favorite line would have to be 'River, oh river, supple and clean/Fill up the gap she left in me.' This kind of set the whole mood for this piece and it was very well-written.

This is a great poem! Thank you for writing.

"The villain will find fault in your art
But not even seraphs could tear us apart" - Those are really neat lines, quite powerful in themselves.

I also agree with Tina Kline, this is a well written poem which explores the beauty and healing power of the river, yet it poses the possible destruction of it. It's really a good write. :]

This paints a very beautiful picture and its full of emotion as well. There's a dark threat to the river and all it represents, goodness, beauty and perhaps innocence as well. I really think you did an outstanding job on this write.
