Rise

Rise

A Poem by Chase

Deep in the myriad of tunnels a bundle twitches
to life.
The sweet scent of fresh foliage
permeates the air-
beckoning from above.

Leaving its nest for the first time in months
the mouse ventures forth
discarded feathers and fluffs of fur
falling from its back.

Twitching nose and whiskers emerge
bathing in the soft light of dawn-
and a new beginnning
with robins
singing.
