Ironically Sad

Ironically Sad

A Poem by Onlyme

Mum, I want this and
I want that!.

We live in an age
where children want
and demand.
Sometimes, just for
the sake of being trendy
and competing with their
peers.

They do not seem
to value the simple
pleasures in life
no more.

As I  did
when I was younger!
We simply made do.

It costly gadgets
and fancy
phones.
Expensive trainers,
as well
as a top of the range clothing
they desire
and want
and require.

How sad to me.
A poor parents
getting into debts
to fulfil a teenagers
longings
just so they
fit in
with their
associates
and to
just
simply
feel accepted
and good.

While poor mother
and father
Are head over heels
in trouble
with money.
Due to societies attitudes
and silly ways.
The normal
teenager
needs just to fit in.

F**k the poor parent
stuck in a trap of
unpaid bills and a roof
overhead. Still needing
to be paid as well.

You are right Dee.

I miss the days of tossing a football or kicking a soccer ball. I do make my grandchildren do. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Even tho I agree with everything you say, I feel you are blaming the wrong aspect. You seem to be making a critical commentary about kids – like it’s the kids who make this a problem. The real culprit is advertising, which invades our lives, hoards our data, shares everything with everyone, launching an avalanche of junk mail, pop-ups, & other such torments. Our society is built on advertising. It is currency. We don’t pay for using Facebook, for example, becuz they launch the advertisers upon us & give them our information so retailers can better torment us to BUY-BUY-BUY!!! When I was young, the big difference -- we didn’t have any TV reception out in the boondocks & the internet hadn’t been invented yet, so we had no influence from advertising. That’s why we appreciated the outdoors & other people & creatures & nature. We weren’t addicted to online pastimes either. So, your poem is satisfying in that it conveys a totally irritated viewpoint (true to life) and I only wish there was some way to remove the advertising from our lives! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Sadly Dee, a sign of the times. We live in a material world. You conveyed the message well.

That is so true Chris.
You just hit the proverbial nail on its proverbial head and good and hard too.... I confess to being repeatedly saddened by some of the trends and diminishing values I see around me...... Nice write tho... Neville
