California Strongman

California Strongman

A Poem by R.E.K.
"

This man has inspired me, I hope he inspires you too

"
 California strongman learns
How to be a little stronger
Little boy with a beard
He's gonna live a little longer
Voices saying "weakling"
Crackle in the fire
But California strongman
Is walking on a wire

He lifts all the troubles
Barbels and barrels
Dad's voice implodes
He slinks to the shadows
Dies
Deflated balloon shrivels
But now his muscles grow
On his heart, on his soul's bones
He
Grows
         Grows
                        Grows...

This California man
 Is finding home
Inside himself
Inside the roads
He thought he'd never walk
But now he runs,
Unchained past it all
He trips, tastes dirt, brushes off from the fall
He will out-muscle 'em all:

The break-em-down haters,
The beat-em-down spite
The rhythm of the pain
The echo of the night
This is his fight
This is his fight

 California strongman learns
How to be a little stronger
Little boy with a beard
He's gonna live a little longer
Doubters point their fingers
Old friends look away
But California strongman
Bench presses a new day
