dreaming nightmares

dreaming nightmares

A Poem by orrin spencer

it's not real, it's not real

laying in bed, not a muscle moving

my eyes search the room for clarity

looking for something to prove my thoughts wrong

dreams, fake reality, are smothering me in fear.

each dream mocking my insecurities

nightmares, screams, a breaking heart

each night she cheats on me

each dream she's always hurt

every night I fail

every morning I feel wrong

never being able to protect them

never being able to correct them

I drift away, eyes open

dreading sleep of unforgiving dreams

each day I wake,

alarm clock; my scream
