World War II

World War II

A Poem by Melyssa Hightower
"

Based off the picture shown.

"
You're in the marines, in World War II.
After the bombing of Japan
You are ordered to head for Iwo Jima.
In February 1945, the Allies start to invade.
Over 23,000 of your fellow soldiers
are either killed or wounded.
After the fight,
Some of your mates want to
Plant the U.S. flag at the top
of Mount Suribachi
Signaling your accomplishment.
Joe Rosenthal is there
to take a picture
While you help raise
the flag.
Later on, this photograph is,
Perhaps, the world's most famous photographs.
