Dearest

Dearest

A Poem by L

i am loved
and smile like Adam
though my lips
have tasted fruit

You forgave my rough excuses
and my belly full of sin
You were there when i was aching
Fire-clad angels let me in

so i rested neath the fruit tree
where the split had first occurred
serpents laced the branches slyly
so Your call remained unheard

i was dreaming of a chasm
gaping, fiery wound of earth
and a woman, sweating, screaming
dragon waiting for the birth

somewhere in my fitful slumber
i was blind and without hope
with a bucket, throat screaming;
Jacob's well without a rope

i ripped myself from restless sleep
as i wish You would this tree
now the shade had grown so deep
elsewhere was too bright to see

i was Jonah, but for one thing,
i had crawled into the fish
accidental lord of darkness,
made the light my aching wish

since this was no Pauline blindness
but a self-created hell,
i had brought my body willing
so i'd drag it back as well

no Job or Jacob Holy daring
nor a jar of precious oil,
mine would be a poor oblation,
useful as a tear to soil

when i came You ran to greet me
with a smile upon Your face,
placed Your cloak upon my shoulders
drew me close into Your grace

showed me scenes of awe and splendor,
showed me You lay dying too,
pulled me close and gently whispered
"look, I did this all for you"

i am loved
and smile like Adam
though my lips
have tasted fruit

'showed me scenes of awe and splendor,
showed me You lay dying too,'

i've read this several times and found some new facet on each reading. the rhyme is brilliantly done, so subtle and yet you've kept this very modern. qudos!

That kind of love can't ever be anything but unforgetable, AND unregretable!
