Birds from Afar

Birds from Afar

A Poem by Paul McKendry
"

.

"

The whale sounds out it charming song,

as the birds fly free overhead.

Buzzing in the foreign darkness,

as we below run confused.

To our homes so frail.

Closing curtains

and locking doors.

Like that will drown it out.

Beads of sweat drop.

Like war drums in a cave.

And nothing

but a whistle from angels afar.

As the bombs fall free,

upon our brittle bones.
