Let Us Regain What We've Lost

Let Us Regain What We've Lost

A Poem by perfectlyadapted
"

One day we'll get it back but for now keep the swing flying high.

"

Let us fight fire with, alas, more fire

Let us call one another names like school children until we are blue in the face

Let us breed hatred

within ourselves

Within our children

Within our grandchildren

Let us lash out at each and every soul, every rotten soul

Let us war

Let us break down the barriers

Let us strike every weak spot, releasing the darkness of society

Then

Let us cry

Let us weep and cough

Let us lick our wounds

Let us hang our heads in shame

Let us look with grieve at what became of our world

See how the bruises turn

See how they turn blue and green and purple

See the pain within each of us

See the destruction around us

See the saddest faces amongst the rubble

All we see is sad faces in a pile

The first smile comes from the child

The child who in his wonderful and beautiful innocence

Swings above the mess we have made

Turning up into the air

Turning up the corners of his mouth in pure happiness

Let us mimic the child who soars

Above the hatred

Above the self-declared judges

Above High above he lets out a laugh

Don’t let his smile fall

Keep the swing in motion till it breaks free from gravity
