Beyond the Picket Fence

Beyond the Picket Fence

A Poem by perfectlyadapted

White picket fence

splintered and grave

a father fled his family of four

nothing is as it was before

A mother stands on a creaking porch

looking toward the horizon

what lies beyond?

oh the dreams we spun

oh how bright and beautiful our future loomed

on the other side of that white picket fence

a tapestry of happiness bloomed

Two children sit on squeaking swings nearby

a wind against their back

chilly reminder of what they lack

one of them stands

he takes his sister's hand and wipes away a tear

"It's time to fix what daddy broke"

A promise whispered in her ear
