Dig Deep

Dig Deep

A Poem by Phoenix Aradia

Bury that body

where it won't be found

Beyond prying eyes,

way below ground

Keep it away from

even your thought

From what might have been,

And from what ought

Never let your mind

stray there

Or a hole in your heart

it will likely tear

There's no more need

to make a fuss

Some things are too awful

to even discuss

What you thought was your cross alone,

might be shared

The least likely people you can think of,

might really have cared

There is no benefit

to taking that chance

Whether it was willful neglect

or merely happenstance

You deserved better

that should have been your lot

But misery and loneliness

are the soul parcels you got

Things you give away

basic decency and respect

Are things you never received

nor never could expect

So when those demons get loose

or rear their ugly head

Just remember it's you who let them live

when they're better off dead

Bury those memories deep,

don't let them see the light of day

Till they're ready to walk on a leash

and do exactly as you say

Put them away where they can't even move

Put them away where they can't even shout

Dig deep, girl, dig deep

till the hounds of hell are loosed about
