No Free Ride

No Free Ride

A Poem by Pete
"

I have climbed several higher mountains without guide or path, and have found, as might be expected, that it takes only more time and patience commonly than to travel the smoothest highway. - Thoreau

"
Who's In the Driver's Seat? Pay, Disrespect Exacerbate Bus Driver ...

"There he is.  Get him."
Take my milk money and shove me down.
Shut up and go away.
There are no empty seats on the bus.
"Boo frickety hoo."

Step to the rear.
Faith taken aback to flesh.
Who's driving anyway?
We come in alone and go out the same way.
I'll stand, looking down ...
... and still get to where I'm going ...

Author's Note

Pete
"He who is only a traveler learns things at second-hand and by the halves, and is poor authority. We are most interested when science reports what those men already know practically or instinctively, for that alone is a true humanity, or account of human experience." - Thoreau
