'Dammed Near'

'Dammed Near'

A Poem by Pete

Levee breach - Wikipedia

i'll never forget that day i was suddenly awoken
eyes wide open
surely a time to be outspoken
when i learned that the levee had broken
more importantly, nature had spoken
no free pass, no shiny token
i'm not jokin'

no joke
cracked eggs with no yolk
hands around throat that choke
down and out, holes in my pockets, dead broke
up in smoke
me, a weary old bloke, having to explain it to the townfolk
and as if that wasn't bad enough, it was damned near impossible to be heard
over all of the bullfrogs croakin'

Quite Dylanesque Pete. The rhythm is spot on. Water is truly one of the more destructive of Mother Nature's arsenal of weapons.

Well done.

thanks tk. keep on the high ground.
A feast of rhyme, fast moving, flowing and visual. There’s certainly been a lot of flooding this year. We have had it over here. Nicely done Pete.
