How We Used To Be

How We Used To Be

A Poem by Breanna Ragland

As I go back,
I look through
The memories...
The fights...
The love.
And It's too much for me to take.
I find myself remembering,
All the things I tried to forget.
I find myself wondering,
What would have been.
I look back now,
And I'm reading the past.
The poem I wrote just for you.
The song you sang to me.
I wonder if she gets or gives,
Exactly what we did.
I look back now,
And remember the hour long calls.
How you'd tell me about your day,
or how much you missed me.
I wonder if you tell her that,
Just like we used to.
I look back now,
I reminisce the past.
And I remember all the things we said,
The conversations we had.
I remember how you would always say,
"Never say goodbye...
It makes me think,
You're leaving forever."
But you knew I wasn't...
I remember how much you cared then...
And I wonder now,
do you care for her,
Like you used to for me.
I find myself remembering,
everything.
And when I stop and remind myself,
You're far gone now...
I can't help but shed a tear,
Remembering how we used to be.
