Crying in the Rain

Crying in the Rain

A Chapter by Shawn Purcell
"

One of the first songs I ever wrote...

"

You didn’t need to say it, your eyes said it all.

You wanted to stay somehow some way, but you can’t be here at all.

I guess I’m a fool for believing, the lies you told to me,

Turn the knife, cut the pain right out of me.

You said that I don’t hold you, and you say that you don’t care.

But I saw the way you’d smile, when I’d play with your hair.

And you turned to run, I just thought you were afraid,

I played along, climbed aboard for the chase.

Chorus

Take the lies, take the pain,

Take all that’s lost between.

Leave the hurt, kiss your lover,

Tell the lies you hide under

Hide the tears, hide the shame,

It’s like crying in the rain.

Take a breath, find a lover

Tell the truth that you cover

Hold on to your answers cuz’ you’re afraid to let them go.

And hold back the truth, because you don’t want to know,

How it feels, to have someone let you down,

You won’t let go, till I lose all that I’ve found.

And you play your games, and you go out on your dates,

Find ways to lie, about the things you can’t explain.

Smile, smothered by his arms

Tell me you’re surprised things keep going wrong.
