In Case I Fail

In Case I Fail

A Chapter by Shawn Purcell
"

A song about the things we run from and the ghosts we chase tryingto find them.

"

I want to run.

I would run but I’m afraid.

Everyone says go,

Then suddenly beginnings.

Say stop and

Be sad that things end.

Try hard,

But have realistic ends.

When I run,

If I run where will I go?

My fears can wait

But they won’t be alone.

I have to say it,

In case this time I fail

And I don’t have the strength

To make this fight again.

Where I run,

Will it appear before me?

As I see how far I’ve come

And that I’ve spent too long running.

Too much time coming

Up for air.

Between where I was before

And where I’m going.

By the time I finish

This spell will reach its end.

Then I can stop pretending I want

Things I’ve put to death.

Let the stories rest in peace

With the ghosts in your head.

Let them lie forgotten

In the land of the dead.
