You're Beautiful

You're Beautiful

A Poem by Quinn W

She looks in the mirror,
seeing her reflection.
She fears her,
showering herself in objections.

Her hair is too short,
too damaged.
She can't, she aborts
feeling disadvantaged.

In this world
of beautiful people.
This morning she hurled
a great upheaval.

In an effort to be skinny
so she can look pretty.
She wants to look like Jenny
with her waist itty-bitty.

But she need not retch
For she is perfect the way she is.
Her body he wants to fetch
She's beautiful in those eyes of his.

Her short brown hair
curls over her shoulders.
For that, oh he cares.
He wants to behold her.

Her brown eyes,
burn like an ember.
Though she must despise
as she sees them and tremors.

He loves her so much
Her mind, her looks
He'd like to touch
like she caresses her books.

Author's Note

Quinn W
I hope I got my point across. If not, here it is: What you find as ugly, someone else might find beautiful. For example, recently I told my boyfriend that I hated my eyes as they are a murky brown and green. He told me they are his favorite feature of mine. See?

This piece has a true message. Sometimes, our view of beauty results not only from the physical appearance but from the inner glow that emanates outward. For example, I have a classmate who's slightly chubby with small, blue-green eyes who's a very kind-hearted person. Though I don't necessarily find these traits attractive, I think they look beautiful on her. They're beautiful, not because of how they look, but because they represent her being. Without her inner beauty, those physical features would mean nothing. I think that's why we sometimes see others' "flaws" as "beautiful imperfections" or something like that. When we love someone (especially in the passionately romantic sense), we seem to love every aspect about them.
