When I'm with you...

You peer into my soul

and unmask my insecurities

I never knew I had.

I thought I was so confident

but with you, 

I unleash my true self.

My problems

and fears

and opinions

flow from my lips

with no hesitation.

I'm not afraid to tell you.

You understand me in ways

I never thought anyone would.

Anxiety is a familiar

battlefield to you.

You help me get through it 

in those tough times.

When we plan to meet up

in our special 'hang out spot,'

I feel nothing but happiness

and excitement.

I've said it once

and I'll say it again:

When I'm with you, 

my anxiety fades.

My head clears.

I could talk with you for hours

about nonsense

and for some goddamn reason

you'll listen to me babble on.

I guess what I really wanted to say is...

This is a well-expressed message of pure gratitude & any friend would be honored to be the person you are describing here. You've shown us PRECISELY how it feels inside your skin & how it's in harmony with the way this friend is when you're together. The appreciation is for all the right reasons, nothing superficial, but real honest knowing of each other, the way you've described it. There's only one drawback for me & that's the word "goddamn" . . . I'm not against swearing, but this harshness does not jive with the rest of your gentle loving message. I don't mind some judicious swear words to make a powerful point, but in this case, it seems to diminish instead of emphasize.

Great poem....I thought that the ending need not have included any "thank you" because the whole message of the poem is already implying one massive "thank you"....
