The Seductive Dance

The Seductive Dance

A Poem by Glee

See the beautiful weaverbird cry with tender sweetness
With every careful weave he sows his wonderful nest
Folding a thousand strands with his tiny beak till it sores
So they can line up just right
Just perfectly for her to see
For her to admire
Appreciate
And at last accept him
To be the father of her children
Fill her home with joy and laughter
Hope and livelihood
Warmth and comfort

Like a soldier wounded at the battlefront
Crying out for the eternal help
For will they listen
They dare not flinch

The peacock waves his magnificent colors
Beautiful feathers of brilliant shades
But will she see
I wonder
Will she flinch
I wonder
Will she flip
Who knows

For your mama asked you to bring a woman
Your papa asked you to be a man
And your friends asked you to hook a chic
Make a flick
Do the flip

So you sought out for that special one
That diamond in the sludge
That jewel in the Nile

But look
Shes not even watching
Shes not into that
How amusing
The seductive dance
She’ll laugh

What you doin boy?
What you playin boy?
Tap dancing!
Clap tapping!
Lap happing!
Fun flirting!
Duck flapping!
Watch it boy!
They’ll ship you off to rehab boy!
They’ll send you off to the gallows boy!
Take it easy boy!
Just be you boy!

Woo her with your fancy car
She’s got one
Lure her to your fancy home
She’s got one
Expose her to your fancy lifestyle
She’s got one
Lie her with your sly lines
She’s heard one

Gone are the old days
When the man did the hunting
Carrying home the massive kill
Making his triumphant entrance to his palace
His home

Blowing his trumpet
Waving his flag
Doing his seductive dance
Running his possessive trance

Marking his territorial stance

But look, see
They’re all around
All you have to do is look and see

Play it smart
Impressions are improbable
Contentions are unstoppable
Intelligent relations are unbreakable

Whirling with the wind
Swinging like a yoyo
Leave that to the romantics

But look, see
They’re all around
Not quite as attractive as the she
Beauty is from afar
But they’re great
Honest
Understanding

They’ve been there
Done that
Seen it all

For with them you need no seductive dance
Do away with the seductive trumpet
My trumpet is my heart
My soul
My being
The rest is just a mask
That’s who I am
Take it or leave it

For with them you fought side by side at the battle front
For with them you shared the joys of your victories
The pain of your mischief
Climbed the highest mountains
Swam the deepest seas
And laughed over your mistakes
Who knows you better than thee?

Just look around and see

I really enjoyed reading this... It's like a honey bee, buzzing here and there, alighting on a little tidbit of wisdom before flitting of to another and another in rapid succession. I enjoyed the pacing and the structure of this piece. Thank you for sharing.

Love,
Stephanie
