All I wanted

All I wanted

A Poem by Glee

She was so pretty

This lady in distress

She was so lovely

And fragile

And little

How could the world be so cruel to her!

Use her for all she had to offer

And then discard her on the streets

Like she had nothing more to offer

Nobody wanted her now

Nobody could take her in now

All injured

And sad

Weeping

And covered in rags

All I wanted was to comfort her

Soothe her in her sadness

Tell her everything was going to be alright

I suppose she must have misread my signals

I guess they must have misread my intentions

I assume they must have misjudged my interests

Underestimated my sincerity

They saw me no different from the rest

Always thinking about themselves

And how they could best take advantage of a bad situation

I could never take advantage of her

She was so fragile

So helpless

So innocent

So needy

Only the greatest of beasts could take advantage of her

And so I offered her my shoulder to cry on

I offered her my chest to lean on

I wiped those tears off her face

And told her everything was going to be alright

As long as I lived I would protect her

I would stand by her

I would never let anything happen to her

That was all I wanted
