Dream Catcher

Dream Catcher

A Poem by dan
"

ingredients of dreams (and how to make dreamy recipes)

"

Someone, will you catch my dreams

 before they hit the floor?

To be ripped apart by carnivores,

 and devoured by their schemes

Ensnared by the web that snatched the catch

we’ll keep it bouncing free in space.

But when it’s gone there’ll be no trace,

so the start and the finish can’t match.

Incensed by life's absurdities,

caution draped in silken threads.

My hopes and dreams are at low ebb,

engaged by my frail sanity.

When dreams are caught they may object

to the treatment they have received.

But how are dreams to be believed

if reality is what they protect?

Dream, Thanks again for your read/review. I always appreciate your input. take care...dan
This is really great.. I like that it ends with a question. If you beat me in the poetry contest I won't be too mad about it, because at least I'll know why :)

This is beautiful. Never read anything like that before. It truly captures how our dreams ensnare us while at the same time creating a net of safety around our lives. Awesome read. Thanks for writing.

I love this. So much meaning and feeling behind the words that brings so much to it. I love the flow and just everything about this. That may sound lame, but I do. I have no other way to explain this lol. Wonderful piece, thank you so much for sharing :)

I have nightmares more than dreams. I awake, at least I think I'm awake, to find someone standing over me...than I scream, and the sound of my own scream awakens me. It gets my pulse running, to where I reach for the light, just to calm myself down. Of course, my cats sleep through everything!

You are such a weaver of tales that truly ignite one's imagination, Dan!

I've not seen this rhyme pattern before. It's cool.
I have a dream catcher. My brother gave it to me because I have bad dreams.
It's beautiful. But the dreams still come.

Hmm..dream catchers. I used to have several of those, tricky little things that they are. They almost always fail me. I greatly enjoyed this poem, dan. Nice job.

Question- You are asking someone to catch your dreams. What guarantee do you have that that someone won't drop your dreams down and shatter them?

I think children are the only ones who are able to sleep peacefully and dream freely and effortlessly. As you said, the dreams of grown ups are incensed with absurdities and draped in silken thread of caution- I love those lines very very much. Wonderful as always Dan :)
