Her Love for Me

Her Love for Me

A Poem by dan
"

Why does love sometimes start strong only to decay like a corpse? How does one cope, if at all?

"

Her love for me, once taut and strong…

Now shriveled and disheveled

And torn asunder, under grief…

Made memories get rearranged,

Dropped inside that grave abyss,

Into death, or madness…

Prearranged.

Her love for me was filled with promise,

Long in hopes for special reason.

The rigid seasons carved the caverns

Into which the bits of love

Fell like rain (not sleet),

Replete with sad remembering.

Her love for me, eclipsed by fear,

Each tear encased in crimson glass,

Surpassed the brim of all the peaks

To fall into such disrepair,

Forgotten and depraved.

Her love for me is gone today,

My love for her enslaved.

I read a study before about how memory works in the mind, and it seems that on rainy days, we remember quickest rainy days from the past- forgetting easily about those long summers spent basking in the warmth. You say grief is a heavy burden, then perhaps it is grief quickest remembered, as written it "made memories get rearranged". In such the same way I hope for you that when the pain subsides and love stops falling "like rain" (an image i love by the way), the sun can shine once again, and old fires will be rekindled.
It's a beautiful poem filled with melancholic imagery, thank you for sharing it Dan.

Well i'm glad of it being a fiction then! Nevertheless a good write. No problem :)
The line in the third verse, where you say "to fall into such disrepair" gave this a chilling tone for me. It's as though nothing will ever make it right again, like your heart has already surrendered to the overt pain of letting go... and moving on.

...then your closing line, "my love for her enslaved", gave it hope!
