How Would Apocalypse Look Like?

How Would Apocalypse Look Like?

A Poem by Rinita Das

This isn't about the evident or the often visible,
This, is all in the insignificant,
Small, surreal, unnoticed,somehow more important.
Life is lost in moments,
Behind fragments of forgotten thought ;
Or so I've been told.

You're like alcohol, as exquisite, expensive.
A crafted container, carefully filled,
Cautiously with consumed time.
To the brim until the overflow is corked away.
Like a slow filling bottle,
You're growing up.
Like a sudden uncorking,
You are throwing up - ideas, anger, sometimes caution.
Tossing away seemingly harmless pieces
Miniscule, apparently uncared for.

So apocalypse wouldn't be zombies, aliens or
The Final Judgement.
Such things too noticeable to ignore.
Like autumn leaves headed for a colourful fall,
Apocalypse will be a gradual descent.
Your impending doom, greeting like a friend.

Apocalypse will be in the fragile nothings.
In locked emotions and deceiving smiles,
In tear soaked memories and momentary euphoria.
Apocalypse will be in a lingering glance,
In some ancient leash broken with brute.
Temporary declarations and seemingly silent explosions.

Apocalypse will be like the slowest poison, Masked by the sweetest scent.
Creeping into your every day,
Proceeding to ensnare the mind, till sensations lost.
Taste, smell, sound, sight
Until it's darkness and
You've been too ignorant to detect.

So, you ask how Apocalypse would be like?
Well Apocalypse will be a personal event,
Don't you think?

Me? Well, I am one of those myriad faces lost in the crowd. I am the poorly made poached egg on your perfect breakfast platter, perhaps with a hint of sarcasm :') more..
