Autobiography Of a Mirror

Autobiography Of a Mirror

A Poem by Rinita Das

The mother covers her tears in kohl
A child makes faces at her flip side self.
I was made to show you the reflected half,
Shinning, gleaming, framed, a non living soul.

Through the ancient past to the modern day,
Bearing wordless witness to some intense monologue
In rehearsed for a play, or in some self inspirational way.
My glittering surface, clouding from mist or cologne.

The perfect gentleman, a damsel's day dream,
He seeks my aid, staring unblinkingly still.
Meeting his demons with each reflected beam,
Shoving secrets away, those brilliant orbs having had
their fill.

She twirls around in finest silk, hair like night in a
waterfall
Concealing apparent flaws, like science experiment with something wrong.
From behind hooted gaze she hums along,
'Mirror Mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all ? '

About
Me? Well, I am one of those myriad faces lost in the crowd. I am the poorly made poached egg on your perfect breakfast platter, perhaps with a hint of sarcasm :') more..
