Dallying

Dallying

A Poem by Davi Rodrigues
"

This, I wrote thinking about the comings and goings of my thoughts as I start this new thing.

"
I want to have a sparrow for a pet
But not to lock him in a cage
I want none of us two to be in debt
In natural friendship we'll engage

At times he'll come to me
Just because I'll be there
And then he will fly free
He'll fly to God-knows-where

If I call out for him
Or go where lies his nest
He'll land on my hat's brim
Or welcome me as guest

And as he's not mine
I'm not his
Things can still be fine
If he flees

Well, if I think more,
I'll grow fond
Of our fine rapport
Of our bond

Then I'll bring him some food
And he will chirp and sing
If both of us are good
It won't be just a fling

His fleas I'll take away
If he lets me do so
And if he wants to stay
I surely won't say no

I want to have a sparrow for a pet
Who now comes to my hand at will
A pet like him I know I haven't met
To scare him not, I must stand still
