THAT WORLD

THAT WORLD

Poem I wrote when I was a teenager

"

THAT WORLD....

As I stand near the edge of the world
I look down to see all the people who stand and live
I try to call, but they don't reply
So I move along into the night
And I see the light behind me is growing dim
And yet I turn away, and head towards the edge
Ever so close, yet so long a journey
The knowledge I quest
lays there in the mist
Between the light and the dark
But I'm unable to grasp it with my fingers
As I run, I stumble
Not once, but many times
Then I see the people
who loved, hated and pitied me
And I try to get up and turn back towards the dim light
But it is gone
And so I must walk on towards the edge
And when I reach it
The memory of friends will fill my head
And the baby that once played in the sand
is suddenly dead.

This reminds me of a growing up and letting go poem. How people fight to remain ignorant, yet in the end they can't be, and the ignorance of youth is destroyed.
I loved the part about the mists, and the time inbetween. Celtic lore speaks much of this, and how it is the time between times and a doorway to the other realms.
Great poem, with great imagery
I enjoyed it very much!
