Day and Night

Day and Night

A Poem by Rosie Brooklin

Another restless night, spent
doubting your affection.
Some days you're brighter than the eyes of a child,
But most nights are empty,
Excluding those in which I leave my morals at the altar
and sacrifice my soul for love.

Some days are frigid,
Leaving me grasping for hope,
But I seem to have lost that blanket
A long, long time ago.
Although the occasional night is warm,
But perhaps that's the liquor.
No, it's your hands across my skin.
And my words burning, "Where have they been?"

I miss the you that didn't own me,
when you professed your love like a beautiful symphony
And I was able to turn away without hesitation.
But I gave you a chance and fell madly in love,
And that's when you burned your violin.

Is this what love is?

I can't leave you, and I never would
But on nights like these, I believe that I should.
I'm stuck on the bench while you move on with your life.
My heart deeply aches; why did you leave it behind?

It is hard when we feel locked in. Many kinds of prisons. We make our own more often then none. I felt the need and I felt the sadness and the loneliness. Thank you Rosie for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

I liked your poem. I tend to reply with writing of my own. I liked your poem.

I'm inclined to do the same sometimes. Thank you!
Love, we grasp it at any cost.
God days, mostly bad.
Resurrection, it is that time of year.
But you know it's gone, all gone.

Thank you dearly!
Yeah, relationships - argh! we spend half the time guessing what's going on instead of articulating the deepest feelings desperately pushing to be heard, direct from the soul.

Your poem is relatable, it reads easily as well as flows. Nice work X

That's so true. If only all relationships came with immediate open honesty! Thank you for your input.. read more
