Whaddaya Know?

Whaddaya Know?

A Poem by rubie

Whaddaya Know?

I know more now

Than I did then

More about showing up

Leading with my heart

More about the value of time

And not sweating the small stuff

And living in the moment

You know more too

More than you did then

More about courage

How fear can paralyze

More about choosing to listen

And the gift of space

We both know more now

More than we knew then

More about being comfortable

In our own skins

Taking things as they come

I know more about receiving

You know more about giving

We both can laugh out loud

At our shadows walking

Their backpacks stuffed with choices

Let’s meet at the crossroads

With open hearts

The only time is now

Because the past is gone

And the future is an unknown

Are you ready?

Your words remind me of a conversation I had with my daughter recently...what is important in our teens becomes less and less important as we grow up. - "not sweating the small stuff"
Love the reference to backpacks stuffed with choices.
It's a pleasure to read your poetry.

Appreciate the kind words and your review, Julie. Yes, only time and experience can teach us those .. read more
with age comes wisdom and a deeper understanding of ourselves and others... this is such a wonderful acknowledgement of being present and living in the now instead of a past we cannot change or a future we know nothing about... well-done, Rubie

Thank you for your review and your thoughts. Much appreciated!
this brought to mind a line from Simon & Garfunkel's Boxer: I am older than I once was, younger than I'll be

yes wisdom and knowledge comes with age and you expressed this nicely.
good poem. I enjoyed the read.

thank you so much for your kind review!
wow...simply wow....open that door and walk through...we know enough now how to do it smartly...

maybe not with the reckless abandon of youth...but with a wiser abandon, knowing we have to let go sometime...or life will just slip away without the good consequence.
