Step Ahead

Step Ahead

A Poem by runningturtle87
"

We might think that over time we would have availed ourselves of every opportunity to mature, engage, grow, become more sincere, become more understanding, but then we see how we are in the light.

"

Who's to authenticate

the point of balance

that screams the name

of the place

where we sit

when having a meal alone?

Is it this me

today

alone here

with my aloofness?

Is this hypercritical moment

the dividing line

between who I was

and the person

I have become

with these new insights?

Or you,

are you the same

as who you were

when first you questioned

the reason for your being

so intent

on disclosing

your inner secrets

to yourself?

Self-consciousness,

a beast and a bathtub ring

in the mind,

will not forget

to circumnavigate

the textures

of our feelings.

I run away

and stand right here

and run,

and in the end

watch myself

unpatriotically

abandon a childhood dream

that someday

when I'm older

I will understand.

Stone tools

and every advantage,

and yet here I am

looking back at myself,

and I am still you.

one little barb after another, plenty to keep me uncomfortable,I think it hopeful to wish to dream of understanding in a world of indifference, Smiling, a thought of a committee of running turtles, never seen three or four together, usually just the lone spare.

Mmmmm.... I like it... the exploration of our interior awareness and what makes us unique and us... and where is the point of change and how do we truly be ourselves without being a carbon copy of others??? Thanks for your woven thoughts :)

I have echoes of similar thoughts running through my head quite often, you've pen'd them quite potent and polished. Nice one, enjoyed this read.

This is a piece with power and meaning. It is well written in powerful metaphors that ravage the reader and rape the thoughts of the reader.

This was great "self talk" here.
I glad Lily sent me the Rr for this.

Stunning and complicated, scattered and right in our face,as life generally is. This piece is definitely thought provoking and casues a slight apprehension before glancing into the mirror of our eyes. Nice.
