Bottled Up

Bottled Up

A Poem by Sam Dean
"

"

Don’t bottle it up,
Don’t stick a cap on it,
Don’t let it brew to a fine bitterness
They say to let it out, let it overflow your corkscrew edges
Your translucent walls
Let it out, out, out
Shout it to everyone around
Save yourself noisily, tirelessly
Endlessly

But what if
What if I’ve stopped overflowing
If I don’t reach the edge anymore
What if I sit in the bottom of a one-dollar dented bottle
In the dregs of backwash and saturation
Curled up where the dust settles
