Passion’s Bedlams        by Sami Khalil

An English Sonnet

Aflame, your love torches passion’s bedlams

Tangling up minds that deftly lie awake

Fires and spells, no adept heart jetsams

As though at first glances flailing outbreak.

Let me linger in those witchery eyes

Gift me a smile blooming like wildflowers

Tis a shapely model, spellbinding size

Casted divinely by Most High powers.

Summon the dreams disentangling the dark

Without mawkish refrain and fledgling brood

For hearts replete with love look stark

Upon roseate dawns, laughter imbued.

Aflame, your love torches shadow’s bedlams

Sending shivers like shooting stars’ mayhems.

Such beautiful language - a modern Shakespeare! The rhythm and rhymes are sublime, and it is clear that every word is felt very deeply. Excellent work!

Man, you have become quite the sonneteer. Everything is classically accomplished...rhythm, cadence, rhyme...I'm truly impressed with your rhyming ability... I mean, it's a great write..and anyone can rhyme two words together, but you have a natural sense for using two words that are not only unrelated in spelling but in context as well... brood/imbued, outbreak/awake, size/eyes, bedlams/jetsams/mayhems ... Shakespeare would be proud of your command of the English language. Well done Sami

'' Let me linger in those witchery eyes - Gift me a smile blooming like wildflowers .. '

And that, Sami - that emotion creates poetry from deep in the heart. From start to finish you have followed academic rules yet, wound true feelings round and round each line in your sonnet. Tis beautiful, sir.

When I left here 4 months ago, your listing was all stories. Now it appears to be all poems. And SONNETS! I can't believe you've gotten into sonnets to such a degree. What I hate about sonnets are those stiff uppity Elizabethan-sounding affairs that rehash the same romantic language over & over. BORING! That's where I learned to hate sonnets. But your sonnet is nothing like that. No way! Your language is dynamic & natural-sounding, but also with that unique Sami flair for artistry! (((HUGS)))

Uncanny magic in just a few lines, the entire poem is just so ethereal and beautifully written. Everything about each phrase hits with a thick sense of nostalgia. Absolutely wonderful!
