Merry-Go-Round        by Sami Khalil

A dream of reality                                                                                 (An English Sonnet)

Roundabout merry the merry-go-round

Painted horses galloped breathless without

I sprawled under the carnival’s playground

With whoops and yells and paled faces in doubt.

Like a thunderclap, I watched the grizzled hairs

Breathing their sighs as high tempo ran through

They wondered how foolish those lad’s affairs

Born frail, riding steady bravery’s debut.

With aplomb, I kept waving at the crowd

Ships in the distance appeared indistinct

I groped for my spectacles while unbound

Across morose, slack smiles, placidly succinct.

Roundabout merry the merry-go-round

A recurring dream boomeranged my ground.

A homage Something Wicked This Way Comes ... perhaps.

Superb write that contrasts the frivolity of youth with the judgement of the ages. As turns out ... the frivolity is wisdom:)

Miss Kerra! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to visit and review. Glad you like it.
An artfully written piece of poetry Sami. I'm in agreement with Margie and her assessment. Such dynamic use of metaphors and it truly does reflect the uncontrollable aspects of life that make us a mere puppet too. Excellent work my friend.

First off, just the mechanics of the poem! Impressive in terms of a romping sonnet rhythm with strong rhyming. Also, impressive in terms of feeling rowdy & dynamic & playful. Secondly, your metaphor is pumping on all cylinders, the way this message conveys the harried madness of life, spinning us all around & around (((HUGS)))
