Consent

Consent

A Poem by Sami Khalil

The power of consent...

What is free consent and when it is not considered free

Consent                 by Sami Khalil

Consent belongs

to others, to myriad things

when given freely.

They might become

either masters or servants.

Either power or helplessness

might follow,

freedom or entanglement for

the filled body, the hollow soul.

From sex to checks,

marriages to carriages,

high expectations,

lowest considerations,

easy peasy, under duress…queasy,

an adorned bauble, a wrangle,

a squabble!

Some advancements have

endowments, others carry disenchantments.

Some scream for attention, injection,

intersection, objection, retention…

worthy of this poet to mention.

So, think before you consent.

Bad beginnings, wrong choices always lead to bruised ends,

in this volatile existence.

Wow! You too. Much appreciated.
Informed consent or a warning? I wonder. Clever writing. There is a sense of assumption in the poem itself and it mirrors how we assume much in life. The concept alludes to a core precept of human interaction as well.. “the benefit of the doubt”.
Thank you for a stimulating read.

lol. wow. this unpleasantly reminds of why lawyers have always given me the shivers. like pulling a loose thread on a sweater - never quite know what it will entail. it can indeed become a can of worms. you surely lit the fuse on this one. very good stuff - perhaps too good. you have mine (with conditions) from start to finish ... :)

Wise words to live by. One always learns the value of their word by the consequences that come with it. Many may see such agreements as trivial but in the end choice comes with repercussions that foresight may not have taken into account. I have made a few myself. CLE

I absolutely relate to this one...as for marriages...it seems some relationships are so good up to the signing of that contract, the vows....and then suddenly the two seem to be there because they have to be rather than wanting to be. And the expectations become unattainable fantasy.

Indeed, we must think before entering into any agreement...be it business or personal. I enjoyed the rhyming in this one, Sami. Very different and very good. Lydi**
