A Writer                   by Sami Khalil

A modern Shakespearean sonnet…

If I had my druthers, writer will be…

Surging profusely with inner visions

By aflutter banners hoisting poetry

Imparting gentle hearts with provisions.

Reaching beneath the silken threads of love

Then soaring high where eagles cast their eyes

Painting days like garden beds strewn above

Voyaging to the land of fantasy’s highs.

Take me where nature prepares a sweet feast

Profusion presented to a child’s heart

Seldom my watchful eyes tire in the least

West or by East, I grasp beauty’s part.

I close my eyes, picturing you near by

Sparingly lament a rapturous sigh.

Sadly most people don’t think these days , they just judge. I would fit into this category you depict quite easily, just pottering around, a note here and there, watching the garden, reading a book instead of wasting life away working. Unfortunately my long line of ancestors had no mansions, estates and riches to hand down to me, how thoughtless of them, they obviously didn’t know I was coming. Nice write and picture Sami.

A wonderful place indeed. Might like to see it one day. All rich blessings.
I like your poetic vocab here along with the wonderful muse with a classic touch. I enjoy archaic styles as well. Kudos!

Dear Sami, and if a writer can do all that which is eloquently penned in your sonnet, what a happy readership he will have.

A pleasure to come across and linger in these lines today. Beautiful work.

I loved the poetry Sami. Like a Donne's dance into romance.
"Take me where nature prepares a sweet feast
Profusion presented to a child’s heart
Seldom my watchful eyes tire in the least
West or by East, I grasp beauty’s part."
The above lines. So wonderful and powerful. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

As I was reading this sonnet, Christopher Marlowe was looking over my shoulder.
He is jealous.
And those provisions? Enough to keep the muse fed we hope.

A nice offering depicting the range of the writer here. Indeed, we must grasp beauty's part. Occasionally, though, we must do the same for ugliness. It's all part of the same story.
