Hook, line and sinker          by Sami Khalil

An English Sonnet...

Poco a poco, a turgid river moves

In bridal style wearing a longish dress

Leggy, stretching along pastures and grooves

A bit closer to flooding, I confess.

Droplets of water in life’s larger schemes

Smoothing hard stones and setting mud courses

As ducks swim between reeds with lucky streams

Catching tea-time pals who wonder sources.

Low tide, high tide, the waves do gently roll

Like laying a hand on grand pianos

Playing Beethoven’s sonatas pressed whole

Musical notes spanning acclaimed credos.

Poco a poco, soft ripples linger

Gracefully accrue hook, line and sinker.

The tide always comes in and goes out and sometimes floods the rivers and streams and other time they are poco a loco....little by little they will fill with water for the beautiful wildlife around.... I enjoyed reading this piece...felt like I belonged to nature.....comparing this stream to a woman's legs... very clever and emotional as well.

:::::::))))))))))))))
It’s like you painted nature as a woman filled with emotions which man does not always understand but is attracted to her all the same like a fish- hook line and sinker! Full salute to the sonnet master.

what an analogy...a river wearing a bridal dress...long flowing through pastures...(you know how much I love pastures and cows)
so these lines grabbed me immediately and sucked me into your poem hook, line and sinker.
I love the stanza of Beethoven and his sonatas...
So acclaimed, so talented so tortured...music like water going over rough rocks.
