East of Eden             by Sami Khalil

East of Eden…

Fallen houses of cards

Sand castles swept away

No home comings

Certainly not prizes galore

Blank skies seem downtrodden

Dearly departed holding wakes

Shivering candles eyeing stoic resignations

After-tastes of acidulous words

Designated areas for the insane ones

Contended ghosts lurking still

Uncut lawns growing weeds

Lovers discovering myths and legends.

East of Eden…

Your love exiled me.

thank you, baby, :)
telling wording. gravely amiss. sure sounds like a place to avoid - each line boring a hole of emptiness in the heart. last line says it all ..:)

Sami,

True love is not supposed to be characteristic of the 70's Nazareth song, Love Hurts ... Even James Dean, Star of the movie, East of Eden, would have told you so ... Excellent Poetry, by the way ...

This is Don McLean's Castle in the air played backyards so dark with rich imagery. Well done you.

What a picture of darkness you have painted here with your words Sami. Line after line of sharps. So original as well. That final line says it all. I am reminded by the title of the John Steinbeck novel, made into a movie with James Dean as lead. That was also about relationships that were very troubled. A wonderful write Sami with first class imagery. Have a great day.

Wow. This went directly to the dark side. It's like venturing into someone's nightmare where you want to wake up but it isn't your dream. Cool piece for setting and nuance. I enjoyed the read.

Note: East of Eden metaphorically means a place of exile, cut off from heaven or heavenly things.
For those who don't want to take the time to think things through or do some research, find it difficult.
What a pity!
