Amidst the Bedlam      by Sami Khalil

A modern English sonnet

This pirate ship sailed off with clueless dreams

A loutish course, dreamers cautiously row

Mimed abed somber nights, dredging up schemes

Fallen leaves and of twigs dappled in woe.

Whether life or the mind, they ambush us

Leaving behind trails of retrospect things

No pride is left when we lose the game thus

Justice can play out its underfoot swings.

Time to ponder, to walk jostling slower

Naught but guile-less how smugly we view paths

How death can be a checkout line’s goer

Subduing varied moods, joy-filled to wraths.

Things elude us, hidden down in plain sight

Grasping at straws, we clutch unto dawn’s might.

are we all just the rowers of the ship of life?
Are we just following rules, staying in line, losing our individuality?
I wonder...maybe the answer is in plain sight, but we are so afraid of getting out of line,
making the ship go a different direction that we stick with complacency...
Nicely done...and metaphorical.

It's always going to be a voyage into the unknown, life, from birth to death, one can best hope not too encounter too many storms though inevitably we run headlong into a few so best hold tight and not capzise, temper this with clement, calm waters, perhaps find, explore an idyllic osasis, fruits, fresh waters aplenty and of course, those beautiful native islanders, yep, what dreams may come??

Amidst the bedlam of life, some of our dreams are hijacked, some are remembered and acted upon and some fade into oblivion. Dreams are mirrors of the subconscious. Nightmares reflect our subconscious fears and anxieties.
